Traveling is … well … awesome. It’s early morning flights, fitting your essentials into a suitcase, and grabbing a cup of coffee at the airport coffee shop. It’s the little luxuries and fun times that make traveling something that we all want to do. But there’s a problem — it’s pricey.
Between luggage fees, rental cars, airfare, and hotel stays, travel costs add up — fast. That’s why we curated a list of two totally free ways to travel for business.
1 – Sell, sell, sell!
One totally free way to travel for business is summed up in just one phrase: sell, sell, and then after that — sell some more!
Founder of Spanx, Sara Blakely, used to travel between department stores to sell her product to customers herself. And you can use that very same strategy to sell for yourself. Here’s our list to help get you one step closer …
-
- Search for events – Are there upcoming business conferences, events, or tradeshows where your product/service would thrive? Register for those events and spend time networking and selling your product while you’re there.
- Consider your customer – You should always be asking yourself, “Who is my ideal customer?” Get as specific as you want and build a customer profile. Once you know who your customer is, you can begin to go to places that your customer would be. Visit those places and talk to the people that seem like your product/service would change their life. You’ll make the money to pay for your trip in no time.
- Think about the product – What is your product/service and how will it impact your customer? You can use this information to determine when the best time to travel and sell is. For example, if you sell handmade swimwear, it might be best to travel in the spring/summer or to warm places. Conversely, if you sell a fitness program, January is a great time for your clients because they are making New Year’s resolutions and getting in shape again! Use this information to determine when and where you should travel to make money.
2 – Partner with someone else
Another great way to travel for free is to do a brand partnership. You’d be surprised how many people are willing to pay the big bucks to get entrepreneurs just like you to their doors.
An important myth to dispel, however, is that brand partnerships are only for elite influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers. Not true.
Partnerships are for anyone who has a product or service that really benefits the customer. Do your research for people in your field who have speaking events, product fairs, or other engagements that you can participate in. Then you’ll get to visit a new place and make connections all at once!
Traveling for business can be a great opportunity to see the world at a fraction of the cost. You just need to figure out how to hack the system so that it works for you. Next time you’re wanting to see a new, cool place, see if one of our totally free ways to travel for business will work for you!
